Lessons From Nature (Why we love Nature's Sunshine Products)
In tending to the garden that Lynne and I grow up in the mountains we have made some very interesting observations.
We grow many different vegetables including peas, carrots, potatoes, lettuce, kale, corn, beets, and garlic. In most cases, except for garlic, we plant the seeds in the spring in the native soils mixed with our own compost. Over the 3-4 month growing season we take great care to make sure that everything is watered every few days as there is very little rain in the summer. Without this watering it would all wilt and die within a week. We also pick any weeds, at times loosen the soil, and make certain everything is coming along according to plan. The vegetables are also protected by a fence we made so that they are not destroyed by roving deer, ranging cattle, or other predators.
It is a constant effort to make certain that the vegetables grow and our protected with our efforts. Now, I am not complaining. We are rewarded with amazing vegetables that we love come harvest time!
But what I found most interesting is that the weeds that grow around the property require no attention to grow at all.
3 months with hardly a drop of water and the weeds continue to grow and create their thousands of seeds for growth next year. We pick weeds in the garden to allow the vegetable to grow and they are tough to pull out because of their elaborate root systems. All the weeds can be picked and yet in 2-3 weeks they come back in full force and look as green and healthy as their predecessors. Any weed that isn't picked throughout the summer is very difficult to pull out as the roots go deeper and deeper into the earth, these weeds get to be a beautiful, healthy green (like pigweed), and can grow up to 6 feet high (like the weed called mullein), and many have thousands of seeds. The seeds do not need to be manually planted each year the birds happily peck away at them and the wind spreads them to new areas. They have a built in mechanism for there propagation and preservation.
Now these weeds can be seen as an incredible nuisance, but there is something interesting here that could be easily overlooked. Considering how it takes no effort on my part, no water in the summer, and yet they grow, survive, reproduce, and are absolutely prolific, "What is it that the weeds know that the vegetables don't know?" And "What is it that weeds know that we don't know?"
Well, these weeds are also called herbs and have been used for thousands of years as natural rememedies, first aid, and more.
These geniuses of nature have a powerful immunity as they can go through tremendous stress and still survive and prosper. They are loaded with vitamins and minerals to make this immunity possibility.
The weeds/herbs are always there for you year after year, and in some cases all parts of them can be used for different uses (root, stems, leaves, flowers, fruits) for the body...and even the mind and spirit.
Although the energy that is in vegetables is wonderful, the energy in many weeds/herbs is more powerful, more nutritious, and more resilient. Considering that the health of your body depends on the energy you give to it doesn't it makes sense how herbs could be so beneficial? It is an energy, a frequency, a code that is given to the body. In many cases they are whole foods that have the ability to support the whole body. It makes sense why they have been used safely for thousands of years.

When these herbs are dried and stored they can be preserved for years. In taking them into the body in capsule form, as we do, we know that they are helping to preserve us. We think that part of the reason why they work so well is because they help preserve the cells. They pass on their nutrients that supports the whole body. It may help cells communicate to each other better.
Now there are certain herbs that are easily accessible, but take a lot of time to pick and store properly. There are also herbs that are difficult to get, but can make a great difference in your health.

Here are a few things you should know about them and the reasons we use them:
1). Many companies accept herbs without testing the raw materials. NSP tests all raw materials and ships it back at the suppliers expense if doesn't meet their standards.
2). Ensuring quality. They measure the scientific ratio of different vitamins and minerals that determines quality and absorbability of the product.
3). Herb identification. Many herbs look the same. They make sure that the herbs they say are in the bottle are the herbs that are in the bottle. Also, there are different species of a herb that may not deliver the effect desired. For example, is it Valeriana Officinalis or the Indian species of Valerian. Other companies have been caught selling the wrong species which is less expensive.
